For the first time since the beginning of the year we had some time as a family to travel to Monument to visit with Doug's parents and brother. We had a wonderful time. On Memorial day we went to the Air Force Base to look around. Phil and Janet have some neighbors that teach at the Academy so we were able to get into areas that visitors don't typically get to go to.
We started out by visiting the B-52 that they have on the base. The plane was HUGE!!! The kids enjoyed sitting on the chains surrounding the bomber.
We then drove up and around to some overlooks that gave you a view of the academy. Here we were eventually able to get the kids lined up for a picture.
After that we just wandered around looking at various statues and of course the Air Force Chapel.
Since it was Memorial Day Janet and the kids had prepared bags of candy with thank you cards for soldiers that we saw on base. Since the Air Force graduation had been recent there were lots of weddings happening in the chapel. We saw these guys on their way to a wedding and the boys were in heaven because they let them hold their swords.
It was a fun trip! We had loads of fun with everyone there.
